What You'll Need
About This Game
The color-matching card game where you race to empty your hand. Two-player UNO plays faster and meaner. Reverse cards act as Skip cards, and stacking Draw Twos hits hard when there's only one target.
How to Play
**Setup:** Each player gets 7 cards. Flip the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile.
**Play:** Match the top card by color, number, or symbol. If you can't play, draw one card (you may play it immediately if it matches).
**Special cards:**
- **Skip:** Other player loses their turn
- **Reverse:** In 2-player, this acts as a Skip
- **Draw Two:** Other player draws 2 and loses their turn
- **Wild:** Play anytime, choose the color
- **Wild Draw Four:** Play when you have no cards matching the current color. Other player draws 4 and loses their turn. Can be challenged!
**UNO call:** When you play your second-to-last card, say "UNO!" Forget and get caught? Draw 2.
**Scoring:** When a player goes out, they score points for cards left in the opponent's hand: number cards = face value, Skip/Reverse/Draw Two = 20 each, Wild/Wild Draw Four = 50 each. First to 500 wins.
History & Background
Merle Robbins, a barber from Cincinnati, invented UNO in 1971 after a disagreement with his son about Crazy Eights rules. He spent $8,000 to have 5,000 copies printed. A friend sold the rights to International Games Inc. for $50,000 plus royalties. Mattel acquired it in 1992. Over 150 million copies have been sold, making it one of the best-selling card games in history.
