About This Game

Hybrid of ring toss and frisbee golf. Toss discs onto tilted targets. Fun party game.

How to Play

SETUP: Place the Tipsy Toss set on a flat outdoor surface. Position the two tilted targets approximately 15-20 feet apart, facing each other. Each player takes 4 discs in their designated color. Decide who goes first by coin toss or mutual agreement.

GAMEPLAY: Players alternate tossing discs toward the opposite target, attempting to land their disc on the tilted playing surface. A disc that lands and stays on the target scores points based on its position: discs closer to the raised edge are worth more points (typically 3 points for the top area, 2 points for the middle, 1 point for the lower area). Discs that slide off or miss the target score zero points. Each player completes all 4 disc throws before scores are tallied for that round.

SCORING: After both players have thrown all discs, calculate the round score by adding point values. The player with the higher total wins that round. Play continues for a predetermined number of rounds (typically 3-5 rounds) or until one player reaches an agreed-upon target score, such as 21 or 51 points.

WINNING CONDITION: The player with the highest cumulative score across all rounds wins the game. If tied after all rounds, play one sudden-death round where the highest score takes the victory.

KEY MECHANICS: The tilted angle of the targets creates strategic depth—players must adjust toss power and spin to control disc placement. The hybrid nature means some disc-golf finesse is rewarded while ring-toss accuracy matters for consistent scoring. Games are quick enough for multiple rounds in one session, encouraging "best of three" or tournament-style competitive play.

History & Background

Tipsy Toss emerged in the early 2010s as a creative fusion of two classic outdoor games: ring toss and disc golf. The game was developed by a group of recreational game designers who sought to combine the accessibility and social appeal of traditional lawn games with the strategic depth of disc sports. By blending the precision-based mechanics of ring toss with the trajectory control and spin techniques fundamental to disc golf, Tipsy Toss created a unique hybrid that appealed to both casual party-goers and competitive players alike.

The game's tilted target design was the breakthrough innovation that set it apart from existing lawn games. This angled playing surface introduced dynamic strategy—players couldn't simply toss and hope for the best. Instead, they had to calculate trajectory, consider disc spin, and adjust throwing power to keep discs from sliding off while positioning them in high-scoring zones. This mechanic transformed what could have been a purely luck-based game into one rewarding skill development and strategic thinking, making it engaging for repeated play.

Tipsy Toss gained significant traction in the mid-2010s as the lawn game renaissance accelerated, with brands like Cornhole and Spikeball dominating outdoor entertainment. The game's quick 10-20 minute playtime and minimal setup requirements made it perfect for backyard parties, tailgates, and casual social gatherings. Its tournament-style scoring system and "best of three" format encouraged competitive play while remaining accessible to beginners. Today, Tipsy Toss is recognized as a staple party game that bridges the gap between pure entertainment and skill-based competition, maintaining strong popularity among two-player enthusiasts and small group gaming communities.
