What You'll Need
About This Game
Flick penguins through doorways to collect fish. Surprisingly skillful.
How to Play
SETUP: Each player chooses a penguin color and places their penguin at their designated starting position on the board. Shuffle the fish tokens and distribute them facedown in the designated fish spaces throughout the game board. Place the penalty cards nearby. Each player should have a clear flicking space in front of them.
GAMEPLAY: Players alternate turns, starting with one player. On your turn, you must flick your penguin by pressing it with your finger to make it slide across the board. Your penguin must pass through at least one doorway during your flick to collect fish tokens from the spaces it passes through. You may collect multiple fish if your penguin passes through multiple rooms in a single flick. If your penguin exits the board or fails to pass through any doorway, you receive a penalty card instead of collecting fish.
FISH COLLECTION: When your penguin successfully passes through doorways, collect all fish tokens from the rooms it traverses. These fish are placed in your scoring area. The doorways are positioned throughout the board to create strategic routes.
PENALTIES: If your flick doesn't result in passing through a doorway, or if your penguin slides off the board without going through a doorway, you take one penalty card. Each penalty card reduces your final score by one point. You do not collect any fish on unsuccessful flicks.
TURN ORDER: After flicking, your penguin remains where it stopped (unless it exited the board, in which case it returns to start). Play passes to your opponent, who performs their flick.
WINNING CONDITIONS: The game ends when all fish tokens have been collected from the board. Players count their collected fish and subtract any penalty cards. The player with the highest score wins. In case of a tie, the player with fewer penalty cards wins.

The game's charming penguin theme and accessible flicking mechanics appealed to both casual players and board game enthusiasts, earning widespread recognition and numerous award nominations including the Kennerspiel des Jahres (Connoisseur Game of the Year) in Germany.

This balance between accessibility and skill has made Ice Cool a staple at game cafes and in family collections worldwide. The 3D board design and physical interaction set it apart from purely card-based or dice-rolling games, offering tactile engagement that appeals across age groups.
