What You'll Need

🎲 Bang! The Dice Game

About This Game

Wild West shootout with dice. Roll to shoot, heal, or gain abilities. Fast hidden roles.

How to Play

SETUP: Each player chooses a character card and receives a role card (Sheriff or Outlaw) kept hidden. Shuffle the dice and place them in the center. Each player starts with 4 health tokens.

GAMEPLAY

  1. On your turn, roll all dice in the center pool (starting with 6 dice).
  2. Resolve dice results immediately: Bullets deal 1 damage to your opponent, Barrels heal 1 of your own damage, Dynamite activates special character abilities, and Missed Shot dice can be re-rolled.
  3. Set aside any dice you've used and return unused dice to the pool for your opponent's turn.
  4. After resolving your dice, your opponent takes their turn with remaining dice.
  5. Continue alternating turns, reducing the dice pool as they're used (removed dice return to pool only if unused).
  6. On subsequent turns, you may choose which dice to roll again or pass.

WINNING CONDITIONS

2-PLAYER ADAPTATION: In the standard game with 3+ players, hidden roles (Sheriff vs. Outlaws) create team dynamics. For 2-player play, both players are treated as Sheriffs in direct competition. Eliminate your opponent by reducing their health to 0.

Alternatively, play with hidden roles where each player draws a random role; the Sheriff wins by eliminating the Outlaw, and the Outlaw wins by eliminating the Sheriff. This adds bluffing and deduction for experienced players.

Game ends immediately when one player's health reaches 0—that player loses, and their opponent wins.

History & Background

Bang! The Dice Game is a streamlined adaptation of the original Bang! card game, which debuted in 2002 and quickly became a modern classic in the tabletop gaming community. Designed by Emiliano Sciarra, the original game introduced innovative hidden role mechanics to mainstream audiences, creating a unique blend of deduction and social gameplay that captivated players worldwide. The card-based version spawned numerous expansions and variants, establishing itself as a staple of party game collections across Europe and beyond.

In 2013, the dice version was developed to address a key limitation of the original: the need for three or more players to function optimally. While the classic Bang! excelled at creating team dynamics and bluffing among larger groups, it struggled to deliver engaging two-player experiences. The Dice Game solved this problem by introducing simultaneous dice rolling mechanics that transformed the gameplay into a fast-paced duel of chance and strategy. This adaptation proved so successful that it became the gateway version for many new players, introducing them to the Wild West theme and hidden role mechanics that define the Bang! franchise.

The 2-player format revolutionized how the game could be enjoyed, making it accessible to casual gamers who preferred head-to-head competition or couples gaming. Today, Bang! The Dice Game stands as a testament to how classic games can evolve while maintaining their core identity. With play times of just 10-20 minutes and simple rules that can be taught in minutes, it represents the modern trend toward elegant, quick gaming experiences. The game's cultural impact extends beyond tabletop enthusiasts—its Wild West theme and intuitive mechanics have made it a beloved choice for introducing newcomers to modern board gaming.
